Immersive Lighting: Fine Art LEDs

Levy NYC's founder, Ira Levy, is deeply inspired by the work of fine artists such as Dan Flavin. Take a look at this 10 minute interview with Ira which covers his background in event production and design.

Through the use of lighting and audiovisual elements, Levy NYC seeks to create accessible aesthetic environments and event design. See the photos below for the influence of the moods, atmospheres and tones first brought to life by Dan Flavin on Levy NYC event production.

As fine art merges with the latest technology, Levy NYC asks the challenging question, how can the new arts of projection mapping and interactive technology be applied to the world of innovative event design?

Stay tuned for further developments.

New York Fashion Week with Alice + Olivia

This season’s Alice + Olivia New York Fashion Week event turned traditional runway on its head through creative staging and event production. Models were installed in various scenes of eastern and Italian Renaissance decadence while the audience circled the room.

Levy NYC’s audiovisual design gave life to the scenes, highlighting the subtle movements of the models while shadowing the wooden-frame and fabric bedecked sets. The many elements of event design came together to create the illusion that the collection has stepped out of a renaissance painting into the modern world.

See the Elements section of the website for a description of the lighting techniques used.

As 2016 winds down, and we think back on a long year of Events in beautiful Venues all over NYC - we can't help thinking of one of the greatest venues of all time, and how it will be surely missed: The Four Seasons Restaurant.

As part of our remembrance, we dug up a big collection of past shots from our work there. We hope you enjoy!

volvo x guggenheim

This month we transformed the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum into an experiential marketing event for Volvo Cars USA. The takeover of the museum profiled the release of two new 2016 model sedans, while highlighting many of the details and nuances to the brand's history. Levy I NYC designed a seamless, low profile A/V environment to elevate the luxury experience for attendees.

Let's face it, these days anyone can uplight a room with rented wireless lights. As lighting designers we have spent the last decade pioneering the signature effect of the LED Wall Wash.  These linear RGB LED units create a much more full, and saturated effect in large spaces. Why Go Full-Service?

Everyone who works in the Events industry knows you cannot produce an event by yourself. Just between the lighting, sound, and video production - it’s all too much to handle alone. So where is the fine line between Do-It-Yourself and overpaying in your technical production costs?

We believe the key is the difference between the doing and the managing - here are three reasons to consider sourcing a full-service lighting, sound, and video production company like Levy Lighting NYC:

  1. MONEY - Think about your costs when sourcing audio, video, and lighting equipment from separate vendors. The charges add up when you consider labor and trucking fees between three different companies, and all their individual taxes on the project.

  2. TIME - Consider the communication with all of your vendors and the complexities behind load-in and strike times, venue restrictions, power distribution and overall design. By sourcing the most limited amount of organizations possible for events, planners can streamline their communications and save more time for managerial aspects of production.

  3. AESTHETIC - When one company brings white colored gear, and another brings black - you’ve got yourself a design issue. Events are growing bigger and bigger, and so is the attention to detail as well as the attendee’s levels of expectation. By employing one company to comprehensively handle your technical event needs, you as the planner or coordinator can concisely dictate your expectations and go greater distances as a designer.

DIFFA: Dining By Design 2015

Levy Lighting | NYC collaborated with designer Stephen Burks to create a tranquil beach setting that showcased his iconic Traveler Chair for Roche Bobois. The installation was a part of the annual Dining by Design showcase, which is presented by DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS for the second year.

Levy Lighting | NYC created a virtual fireplace by projecting video content on a partially transparent glass surface.

Joana Vasconcelos & Ira Levy Collaboration

Ira Levy from Levy Lighting | NYC collaborated with internationally renowned Portuguese artist, Joana Vasconcelos to illuminate her Valkyrie Octopus sculpture, which she created for the Grande Praca at the heart of MGM MACAU, during Art Basel in Hong Kong.

Joana Vasconcelos draws from the marine and maritime, bringing to Macau a magical universe of cultural exchanges and meeting of opposites, with a dramatic sound and lighting scenario conceived and realized by Ira Levy.
